with his father and could not do it. Soon after that I met Mr. Madar, who paid me the Court Fees in this case on behalf of the Petitioner, near the Law Courts and asked him to take the $9.00. He requested me to keep it and to help the petitioner by asking one of the Clerks in the Registry to complete the matter to which I agreed. I intended to transfer the balance in this case to one of the Clerks in the Registr, as desired by Kr. Kadar but was suspend- -ed soon after my interview with Mr. Ladar. I went twice to Toka- -wan to find the petitioner in re Shek Fuk, deceased, but she was out on both occasions. On the 24th. of July last I met her on the road near Tokawan carrying sweet potato leaves and would have TFIII: returned then the 11.50 to her if I had not been already arrested for embezzling it. I was arrested on the 23rd of July last at about 7 p.m. and on the 24th. I was bailed out and the case was formally remanded to the 31st. I did make attempts to find Li Tam Kiu, the petitioner in re Li Ah Shau, deceased, but could not find him

The Honourable the Colonial Treasurer remarked that I could have earned interest on these balances if I had placed them in the bank. I submit a fraudulent person could not only have earned interest but could obtain a small sum for the his trouble for at- -tending to the matter. Neither has been proved or alleged against me although the Honourable the Colonial Treasurer repeatedly and very strenuously questioned the man Li Tam Kiu if he had paid me anything beyond the proper amount of Court Fees, viz.; $14.50. The answer was in the negative,

I admit as the Honourable the Attorney-General intimated that the practice of receiving fees in advance opened the door to many fraude to be committed by fraudulent persons, but I submit that door is still open in the Registry and has been allowed to remain open by the Registrar, Mr. Nisbet, under an Order of the Court.

It would be seen that I could have returned the balances that I carried away with me on the 30th of June last to the respective payers thereof, except, perhaps, in re Li Ah Shau, deceased, but only for the reason stated above. The following balances were still
